Scherger (YBSG)
Airspace
When SG TCU is online, R604A, R604B, R605A, and R605B are activated. This equates to Class C & Class G airspace within 40 DME YBSG from SFC to F245.
Various airspace modes may be activated around YBSG by SG TCU, depending on the operations planned. The most common is TRA Scherger. Rarely, SG MIL CTR may be activated.
TRA Scherger
When SG TCU is online, TRA Scherger is activated by default. The airspace extends from SFC to A040 within 15NM DME YBSG, clipped to the southwest.
The activation status of TRA Scherger will be reflected in the ATIS.
Military Control Zone
The SG MIL CTR (Military Control Zone) is defined as airspace within 15NM DME YBSG, SFC-A040, clipped to the northeast. The SG TMA is unique in that the associated MIL CTR is not necessarily activated by default when SG TCU is online. When the SG MIL CTR is activated the entire area is reclassified as Class C airspace.
The activation status of the SG MIL CTR will be reflected in the ATIS.
Tower Closed Procedures
When SG TCU is offline, the restricted airspace F125 and below reverts to Class G. CTAF procedures apply at YBSG and YBWP.
Circuits
The circuit height is A015.
Circuit Direction
| Runway | Direction |
|---|---|
| 30 | Right |
| 12 | Left |
Departures
VFR aircraft should expect to depart via a visual departure, on track to their first tracking point.
IFR aircraft shall expect to depart via a pilot-managed IFR departure or visual departure.
Arrivals
An RNP approach is available to both runways.
IFR aircraft can generally expect to be processed direct to the IAF for the following approach:
| Runway | Approach |
|---|---|
| RWY 12 | RNP |
| RWY 30 | RNP |
VFR aircraft can expect to join the circuit for the most suitable runway.
Initial and Pitch
The intial points are aligned with Taxiway A at the following locations.
| RWY | Initial Point | Altitude |
|---|---|---|
| 12 | Bend in Mission River at 4.5 TAC SGR | A025 |
| 30 | Intersection of Marmoss Creek and easterly estuary | A025 |
Special Use Airspace
Military Gates
There are several military gates established throughout the SG TMA to facilitate entry and exit to adjoining SUA.
| Intended SUA | TCU Exit Gate |
|---|---|
| N/A (Deps East) | Gate 2, 4, and 6 |
| M601A | Gate 8, 10, and 12 |
Note
Details of each gate can be found in the Scherger FIHA.
Phraseology
FBED14 plans to enter the M610A MOA via the Gate 10 for military training and airwork.
FBED14: "Scherger Ground, FBED14 for Gate 10, F180 for M610A, request clearance."
SG SMC: "FBED14, Scherger Ground. cleared Gate 10 direct, climb to F180, squawk 6001, departure frequency 124.2."
Helicopter Operations
Helipads
There are two helipads at YBSG, both located south of Taxiway A2.
Both helipads are outside of the manoeuvring area so no takeoff or landing clearances will be issued. Instead, helicopters will be instructed to report airborne or report on the ground.
Phraseology
SG ADC: "RHWK11, Pad 1, report on the ground"
